The concept for the design of the new National Library of the Czech Republic can be described as fragment of an urban landscape.
The project consists of seperate buildings according to the various functions of the library placed on the given site. The space inbetween and underneath these buildings is the actual library space for the visitors housing the main hall functions, open stacks and circulation elements.
This main space is enclosed with a glass shell and will be experienced as part of the surrounding park landscape. It is the starting point for visiting the different public and semi public areas of the library.
