The
Parachute Pavilion
Wettbewerb 2005
Restaurant/Cafe und Event Space,
Cony Island, New York
The design of the Parachute Pavilion emerges from two structures that
do already exist at the competition site:
the Steeplechase Peer, which is extended across the boardwalk and modeled
as a fold becoming the restaurant and event space structure, and the boardwalk
volume at the end of the baseball stadium that is extended towards the
Parachute Jump to accomodate the shop, offices, kitchen and storage for
the restaurant.
These two elements overlap at the competition site leaving the boardwalk
level inbetween open space only connected by the circulation core.
The restaurant and exhibition space is 10' above the boardwalk level which
is high enough to get a great view of the beach and the sea.
Towards the sea the restaurant turns into a big stair which becomes the
outer seating area.
